This section covers the same material as the Road Map, organised by subject rather than by stage. It suits a specific question — whether to lease the next truck, how fuel tax reporting works — where the sequence of a startup journey is not relevant.
The five pillars
- Rules & Regulators — Which agency governs what. FMCSA covers safety and operating authority, state DOTs handle registration and permitting, the IRS collects the Heavy Vehicle Use Tax, and IFTA jurisdictions administer fuel tax reporting.
- Money — Insurance, fuel costs, taxes and permits, and factoring.
- People — CDLs and medical certification, driver qualification files, drug and alcohol testing, and driver hiring and retention.
- Equipment — Buying against leasing, ELD systems, fleet software, and maintenance.
- Freight — Load boards and brokers, rate and lane behaviour, and contract and detention terms.
Why some pages are brief
Several pillar pages summarise a topic and link to the full guide in the Road Map instead of repeating it. Publishing identical material at two addresses divides its search authority and creates two versions to maintain. The Road Map holds the canonical guide; the pillar page introduces the subject and refers to it.
